Packaging is a screening tool, not final proof. Compare the suspect item with an authenticated reference from the same supplier and review spelling, print sharpness, label alignment, cap construction, fill level, barcode behavior, batch coding, and declared responsible-company information. A missing or inconsistent lot code is more concerning when it prevents the product from being linked to production records. Be cautious with claims that a holographic label alone proves authenticity: packaging components can be copied, replaced, or reused. Photograph every side of the container, preserve the invoice and shipping carton, and avoid opening multiple units before the supplier has reviewed the evidence.

Request a lot-specific certificate of analysis when available, the safety data sheet, ingredient or INCI declaration required for the target market, manufacturing date or lot identification, recommended curing conditions, and a written confirmation that the packaging and batch originated from the named manufacturer. An SDS communicates hazards and handling information; it is not, by itself, proof that the complete formulation matches the container. Likewise, an ingredient list may not disclose percentages or proprietary components. Compare document names, lot numbers, product names, and responsible-company details across all records. Generic documents with no batch connection deserve additional verification before a bulk order.

A change in curing behavior can indicate a formulation or storage problem, but it cannot identify counterfeiting by itself. Under-curing may result from an unsuitable wavelength, insufficient lamp intensity, excessive layer thickness, expired material, pigment loading, or a changed photoinitiator system. Test a retained authentic sample and the suspect sample under the same lamp, exposure time, layer thickness, and application method. Record surface tack, indentation resistance, wrinkling, heat spike, color shift, and adhesion after the stated cure. Do not rely on a longer exposure to make an uncertain product safe; inadequate conversion can leave residual reactive substances and increase service or skin-exposure concerns. Escalate meaningful differences for chemical assessment.

The magnetic effect depends on particle type, dispersion quality, viscosity, settling behavior, magnet strength, magnet distance, and the time between application and curing. A weak line therefore does not automatically mean the product is counterfeit. Separate storage-related settling from formulation inconsistency by gently mixing according to the supplier's instructions and comparing several units from the same lot. Examine whether particles move evenly, remain suspended after controlled storage, and reproduce the same design with a fixed magnet, wet-film thickness, and timing. Persistent separation, gritty deposits, unusual odor, or large unit-to-unit differences are stronger reasons to quarantine the lot and request technical review.

Confirmation requires a qualified laboratory rather than a salon inspection. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy can compare broad chemical fingerprints with an authenticated reference, while chromatography-based methods may help investigate volatile solvents, additives, or differences in organic components. Microscopy can assess particle distribution, but it does not establish full chemical identity. A laboratory may also evaluate viscosity, density, cure conversion, or restricted substances according to the destination market's requirements. Ask the laboratory to test both the suspect sample and a verified control, document sample custody, and define the question before testing. A single color, odor, or viscosity result should be treated as a screening signal, not a conclusive finding.

Stop distributing or applying the questionable lot, isolate unopened and opened units, and retain the original container, label, carton, invoice, and lot evidence. Record purchase source, dates, lamp model, application thickness, cure settings, user observations, and any adverse skin or nail reactions. Do not mix the material with another batch or relabel it, because that can destroy traceability. Notify the supplier in writing and request a lot investigation, replacement reference, and documentation review. If an injury or regulatory concern exists, follow the reporting route required by the destination market and seek medical advice for the affected person. Dispose of material only after evidence and local disposal requirements have been considered.
