Use a diffuse surround with a controlled specular component for sparkle-bearing finishes. For photographing or visually grading the magnetic line, set the observation angle to highlight directional reflectance—typically 20°–45° off-normal gives consistent visibility of the cat-eye band. Always report illumination conditions (temperature, lux) and camera/observer angle; inconsistent lighting is the single largest source of subjective disagreement in cat-eye evaluations.
